Newborn Sleep Schedule : What We Need To Figure Out
Hands up for all the new parents that just have a newborn little baby on their arms. Babies are considered as newborn up to at the age of three months. This is the time when you feel really confuse and do not know what exactly to do. The easiest way for you to do would be asking others’ help to learn how to take care of your newborn babies. Usually you will ask your parents how to take care the babies rightly or even ask them to put the babies to sleep and some other things that we have not familiar yet. Even though you can always ask someone’s help, that does not mean you do not need to learn anything about newborn babies. Newborn sleep schedule : First Week
The first week of you having a newborn little baby, would be the hardest week for you to have. Because you are just getting started to learn about new things. Since this is the first time you take care of a baby your own. Before doing anything, you might want to know some facts about newborn babies.
Newborn babies do not have a day and night sleep schedule. Why? It is because they have been in their mother’s womb for nine months without knowing if it is a day time or night time. This is why the first week of you having a newborn baby, you will find that your baby mostly fall asleep. Just let your baby fall asleep and put such a comfortable zone for the baby to sleep. But please take note that you are still required to feed the baby. You will find it hard because all your baby mostly do is sleeping. You can softly wake your baby up by rubbing the baby’s palm. You need to make sure that your baby get enough food before they fall asleep again. You can just wake your baby up again for breastfeeding if your baby suddenly falls asleep in the middle of breastfeeding.
In their first week also, you will experience the time when your baby falls asleep during the day but easily wake up during the night. Again, it is because they have been in their mother’s womb for nine month. Which make them unable to tell whether it is a day time or a night time. So parents, be prepared for this to happen.
Newborn sleep schedule : Second Week
During the second week, there will still be a mix time between a day time and a night time for your baby. But you do not need to worry. Your baby is just getting started to adapt of being alive outside his mother’s womb. Do your best to keep your baby awake during the day. This is the time when you can open the window, let some light to strike into the room, and make the environment as bright as you can. So that you can keep your baby awake. When your baby is awake, this is the right time for you to feed the baby.
In the second week, you must not let your baby sleep more than three hours during the day. You need to wake your baby up for breastfeeding first, then let your baby sleeps again. It is because, if you let your baby sleeps more then three hours, you will find it hard to put them to sleep during the night. Because they will wake up once they feel hungry. So parents, make sure that your baby feels full first before letting your baby to sleep again.
At night, you can change the environment around your baby. Start from turning off the light, and put such a dimly lit environment. This also can train your baby that once the environment is getting dark, it is the time for them to sleep. You can also sing a lullaby for them to make them sleep more comfortable.
Newborn sleep schedule : Third Week
By this third week, it is surely that your baby is starting to familiar with the things around him. Start from the people around him to the usual things that they will do everyday. This is also the right time for you to train your baby to fall asleep on their own. Why? Because, if you train your baby in early age to fall asleep on their own, it would be much easier for you to handle once they become older. Because for parents who have months old babies and toddlers, mostly find it very hard to put their kids to sleep. Fight sleep in babies is a common thing to happen. So, to prevent this situation, it is better for you parents to train your baby to fall asleep on their own. Moreover, even though without a training, your weeks old baby has already known how to sleep on his own. You just need to keep it as a habit for your baby. Once it becomes a habit, it would be so much easier for you parents to put your babies to sleep when they get older.
Another thing to notice about newborn sleep schedule is your baby’s growth spurt. Growth spurt is the condition where your baby is starting to develop and improve more. It will be happen to all your little babies. And this is not the thing that you should afraid of. This is a normal condition that will happen to babies. You just need to take note, that once a baby is in a growth spurt phase, they surely will sleep more than usual. To overcome this, you can give them more nap time or put your babies to sleep earlier and wake up later. On the other hand, besides sleep more, babies in their growth spurt will have more appetite. So you do not need to worry if suddenly they are craving for milk more than usual.
